About Joint Resolution LLC
Joint Resolution, LLC was founded in early 2008 by Sandy Hauserman and John Chaplin. The concept for Joint Resolution emerged from the deep undercurrent of concern on the part of both buyers and sellers of reinsurance over the way reinsurance arbitrations are being conducted. Originally arbitration clauses were designed so that disputes could be resolved quickly, efficiently and fairly by industry executives with transaction experience. Instead reinsurance arbitrations are now extremely costly, time consuming, and often involve highly legalistic processes. As costs of reinsurance arbitrations have escalated and procedures have become overly complicated companies have become increasingly frustrated. Today, resolving even the most straightforward reinsurance dispute often involves endless delays and months or even years to complete. The result is that too many disputes are not being pursued to resolution simply because of the costs involved. Joint Resolution was founded to provide an alternative to those companies dissatisfied with the current state of the dispute resolution process.
Why JRL?
An increasing number of reinsurance professionals have told us they are dissatisfied with the current process for solving reinsurance disputes – that the process is time consuming, expensive, and overly legalistic.
We started Joint Resolution to provide an alternative. We have assembled a multi-faceted approach that we believe returns to the original intent of affordable, fast, and fair resolution of disputes. We achieve this by utilizing the power of on-line technology and, if needed, a simplified and expedited arbitration/mediation procedure.
Our vision is to create a community of users all with the common purpose of improving the way reinsurance disputes and commutations are handled. Working together, we can reduce the amount of time and money parties spend obtaining final resolution of disputes so that they can concentrate on their core businesses while knowing they have achieved very desirable economic results on claim disputes.
The Founders
William G. Hauserman
“Sandy” is an Attorney and ARIAS-certified arbitrator with 28 years experience in the insurance and reinsurance business. In 1988, he joined Guy Carpenter where he ran the World-wide Environmental Liability Specialty Practice and brokered treaties for clients involved General Casualty and Property lines of business. He has reinsurance expertise in Environmental Liability, Cyber-Risk Liability, Florida JUA Take-Out business, and many lines of Professional Liability. Prior to GC Sandy was a fac and treaty underwriter for San Francisco Re.
John Chaplin
John began his reinsurance career in 1977 at Guy Carpenter where he served for 23 years as a broker. He managed the treaty needs of large and small insurance companies including start-up entities and residual markets. John also spent three years at Swiss Re as head of the Eastern Region Marketing division whose clients were large, national insurance companies as well as specialty underwriting companies. Since 2003, John has been an independent reinsurance consultant for reinsurance training, auditing, expert testimony and arbitrations. He is an ARIAS-certified arbitrator.
